Hi,
Ive been sent an appointment for a picc line insertion in the morning - wasn’t expecting it!
But what I’m wanting to know is, I understand it needs to be flushed and the bandage changed etc.
Am I given the stuff to do that and also receive the training or do I go to my GP surgery for this?
im a bit apprehensive about potentially doing it myself!
Also, are you able to wear normal clothes or should i focus on T-shirts etc?
Thank you!
I had mine in last Friday. Had to have it adjusted Tuesday as it was too far in and caused palpitations.
it makes chemo a lot easier. No needle sticks and as your veins can collapse in chemo getting a cannula in can be challenging (sometimes taking an hour).
you go weekly for dressing change and flushing.
i was very scared but the procedure was pretty easy and virtually pain free.
you can wear normal clothes. Check out Porto & Bella for Chemo tops for the day of the infusion though. Zips to access the PIIc. To be honest in summer with a t short you may not need it but if your chemo drug comes direct from the fridge like mine a warm top and blanket are needed!
rest of the time I wear ordinary but loose clothes. You may want to get PIIC sleeves to cover it although I mostly used tubigrip so far.
you won’t be able to lift heavy things nor play racquet sports but rest of the time you can carry in as normal
