Hi currently waiting biopsy results, had ovarian cyst on ovaries and had both ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in October but cyst ruptured in surgery and had to have womb, cervix and Omentum removed in January, awaiting on these results.. I am aware boarderline tumours are not fully malignant but I am worried when I burst eventually these cells could change.. I have also read 2 different articles to oncology for and against given chemo to this stage that I am , I know nobody wants chemo but I feel I want to throw everything at this and have it to stop anything coming back if it did.. has anyone else been in this situation?

  • I’m having the same conversation at the moment about chemo or not

My oncologist says it’s not needed for stage 1 but looking online, it seems that some oncologists do recommend chemo!

  • Hi BINNO

Please let me know what you decide re chemo and what you're advised to do!

I'm getting very conflicted advice myself! It's such a worry, isn't it?!

  • Hi. I'm sorry you found yourself in this situation.  It's pretty rubbish.  Mine is a similar story. Unfolding by the day! Initially,  my tumour both tubes and ovaries were removed via keyhole. The tumour burst but I wasn't told this Initially.  The histology confirmed it had been cancer. I went back in, exactly 6 weeks later, full hysterectomy,  omentum, appendix etc. Histology indicated no spread but I was advised by Gynae Oncs that the MDT was recommending one course of chemo and sent me to see the oncologist.  He said that because my cancer had been caught early, grade one but had burst, grade C, there is no data for him to give me and that it was as risky to have chemo, hormone therapy as not to. So, Initially I decided not to. I then chatted with my GP, who was more candid,  explaining that any reoccurrence would move me from treatment to terminal.  I spoke to my specialist nurse, who said the GP had been right to have that conversation with me. She said that I should have another appointment with the gynae oncs followed by the oncologist.  The gynae oncs gave me the information I probably should have had weeks ago. She confirmed that the tumour had burst, what they did to mitigate, that the spill and the fact that histology showed cells on the outside of the tumour, is why she feels the mopping up chemo is needed. Once I had all of that understanding,  I agreed with her. So at my oncologist appointment,  we went through the chemo details and he is now arranging it. I am not looking forward to it but feel it gives me my best chance. If ever I do (hopefully not) get any reoccurrence in years to come, I can know in my heart that I did everything I could at the start (now) to give my future self the best chances. You are very much not on your own. Can I ask if there's a link for the articles you read? I hope things are going well for you. Let me know?

    Best, H27 x
