Had my first dose in Cycle 4 of chemo Tuesday 25 April. Getting occasional sharp jabbing pain in my left ovary and more generalised pain under my solar plexus. Anyone else suffered the ovarian pain, in particular? Doesn't fit with what gets described as "abdominal pain" to me... thoughts anyone?

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that you're getting a jabbing pain since starting chemotherapy. You say that it doesn't seem to be the abdominal pain you've been warned about so it would be a good idea to ring the 24 hour chemotherapy number you will have been given to talk it through with the chemo nurses.

  • Thanks latchbrook, but if I rang the 24 hr chemo helpline every time I had a side-effect that wasn't listed in all the info given either by Macmillan, Cancer Research, the Onco, the Gynae CNS's or the nurses delivering the chemo, then I'd be bothering them all the time and I don't like to do that. It passed with some paracetamol and a hot water bottle in bed and now, I would describe it more as abdominal pain, so I won't ring them. Anyway, from experience, the pain does tend to move around a bit. I tend to get quite a bit under my solar plexus, but I'm just going to put that down to "the way it is...". Thanks for your support and advice.

  • I'm sure they wouldn't think you were bothering them. I only had to ring a couple of times while having my chemo and I never got the impression that I was bothering them. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

  • The number is there for you to use, it could be that they can give you an explanation for it or some meds that they help

It may not be a case of ""the way it is"

No need to suffer in silence

    Make the call

  • hi, i hope things are better for you now. can i ask if your cancer type is low-grade or high-grade?

  • Hi ddhd96 - thanks for asking. I have done 6 chemo cycles now, instead of 3 then surgery, then 3 as my cancer had not reacted particularly well (i.e. tumours shrunk enough) for surgery to be undertaken after 3. My oncologist was pleased with my CA-125 level after 5 cycles though and now I face surgery on 28 June, but a lot is still undecided and I may not know some things for certain until nearer the time as - right now - my iron level is low so I may need an iron infusion before the aneasthetist is happy to go ahead. There is also still doubt on exactly which surgery will be taking place: a laparoscopy only, a laparoscopy and full interval debulking or perhaps no surgery at all - unlikely, though. We are still waiting for my last CT scan results (from 14 June) and then we should know some more. I've no idea whether my cancer was/is low or high grade. Only that I had obvious growth in my ovary size and small tumours on the surface of my bowel.
