Doubled in size

Hello!

Following an NHS scan on the 11th, I was told by my doctor I had a suspicious cyst and they were going to rescan in 8-10 weeks.

I had a private scan on Saturday 10 days later for reassurance and was told I have a septated cyst…. Also my endometrial lining is thicker than expected at 9mm. I had an app with my GP today as I am extremely bloated and constipated, I gave him my results from my private scan Saturday & he said my cyst has doubled in size in less that 2 weeks and is now over 5cm. (How can this double in that time?) they also said it’s not dermoid. It didn’t look very good on the screen however the private Sonographer said (which is very patronising) if you were my daughter I wouldn’t be losing sleep over this, as your very young and Ovarian cancer is so rare in people your age!

should I be worried? I’m not one to moan but something really does not seem right, I can just. I’m barely eating a thing and I’m constantly bloated. I just want someone to tell me I’m not over reacting! My GP said he was going to make an urgent referral but will send them a message so that they go directly to him and he will call me in a couple of days. Has anyone had this before that resulted in Ovarian Cancer?

  • Hello, You haven't said how old you are but regardless they shouldn't be telling you that you are too young to be concerned about it being anything serious. I got told the same thing a few years ago and have been back and forth to the GP telling me I had IBS. Turns out it's not. So, yes it could be cysts and nothing too scary, and it's probably more likely than cancer but they should take it seriously. She may be trying to be reassuring but Cancer can happen at any age and to be told otherwise isn't necessarily helpful (maybe she just shouldn't say anything rather than something unhelpful). At least your GP has made the referral, if it goes down the cancer pathway things should start to happen pretty quickly. I was somewhat lucky in that I asked for a different GP when my symptoms became worse over the summer and she straight away sent me for a ca125 blood test. This is a tumour marker which doesn't mean cancer in all cases but mine came back very high and I was sent down the 2 week referral route for a scan and consult.

Fingers crossed for a good result for you! X

  • Thank you for your reply, I’m 33. Honestly really struggling today, can barely eat a thing. Really hoping I get some answers soon. Not sure how it works that I am barely eating yet I’m having to undo my trousers because I’m so bloated. I just want to get to the bottom of it because this really is not normal xxx

  • How are you feeling? What were your symptoms xxxx

  • I hope you get some answers soon, the waiting seems to be the worst thing!

I've had 'IBS' like symptoms for the past few years with on and off bloating, constipation, diarrhoea. Then heavy periods with lots of pain and mid month pains during ovulation. It's taken a long time for me to be taken more seriously and unfortunately I'm at a later stage now. But things are happening very quickly and I have a great team looking after me in the Midlands area. I'm going for debulking on Mon then all going well I'll be on chemo by Dec.

Whilst I was waiting for answers, and feeling bloated I couldn't stomach much, definitely lost a few pounds. I think it was probably anxiety rather than a direct result of the cancer. After I got my fears confirmed I actually felt better ironically and managed to eat more! I found protein shakes helpful during that time. X

  • Oh bless you!! Sending lots of love! How were you diagnosed was this also through ultrasound? I noticed on your profile your CA125 was really high. Xx

  • Haha, yes, it's a little on the high side! My bloods came back pretty quickly and I had an ultrasound within a week of that. They picked up a big growth on my ovary and some low level fluid in the abdomen. From there it was a non stop rollercoaster ride from consultant to CT, back to consultant, then to surgeon for diagnostic laparoscopy then waiting for biopsy (which isn't back yet), now been booked into surgery for everything out on Monday. This has all been since my bloods taken end of August. X

  • How awful,! I have been suffering with constipation and blood in bowels, I had a stool sample which came back with high calprotection which they said is inflammation of the bowels. Did you have any bowel symptoms like that? Xxx

  • You poor thing, I did have bowel symptoms but they were never investigated. Only put down as IBS. CT of bowel was clear though. Have they mentioned IBD?

  • The doctor said it could be Chrohns I’m on the waiting list for gastro which they said could be 6 months wait, but seems the ovary issue has taken over, I’m exhausted too but always put that down to being a single parent of an 8 and 2 year old aswell and working full time, but the last 2-3 months have been much worse, but my blood test also showed folate deficiency so I’m on folic acid. Feels like it’s all going on, nothing compared to you though :( xxx

  • I've just remembered (funny what you forget after a while), I did get a blood test for celiac disease but it was negative. Then when lockdown came my GP seemed to just forget everything.

Fingers crossed for having something else other than oc, but if you do then there is a lot of support available. Don't be afraid to ask people for help. I was a single parent for quite a while and I know it can be hard to hand things over! I'm fortunate that my work has been very understanding and I've been signed off for 6 months, I currently get company sick pay but that won't last forever. I know money is something we all immediately worry about when we think we might be ill. It might be worth digging in to what you get should you need time off. If nothing else it might make you feel you are able to do something that's proactive about things even if you don't end up needing it.

I try to go with the not to worry too much until you know you have something to worry about view. But I like to be prepared. And don't go on Google! It's all very outdated information regarding oc. Stick to this site, cancer research uk and ovacome. Or You'll panic even more!
