Hi everyone,

I am starting adjuvant chemo next week (carbo/taxol) for stage 2a ovarian cancer. Was wondering if anyone’s got any practical tips for how to prepare? I live on my own so want to stick up on things I might need for the first few days. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Dewey

Welcome to this online forum. I have just completed five rounds of chemo for stage 3 ovarian cancer. I found the first round not too bad. You’ll feel worse on days 3-4 when the steroids have worn off but each day after that feels a little bit better. Stock up for the first week when you’ll be weary but after that you should hopefully be ok around the house.
Each round gets a bit harder as it has a cumulative affect on your body but don’t worry about that for now. Just take one day at a time.
Hope it goes ok for you.

Hi I’m on similar journey done surgery and on 4 out of six cycles of chemo same drug

it has not been as bad as I thought it would be as post below said you will feel a bit off and emotional after stopping steroids but this only last for a day my off day is day 5 but allow yourself just to be and you get through it. I have found taking short walks helpful as well to create a bit of structure to the day and doing normal things meeting family friends for coffee makes the cycles easier when you feel up to it.

listern to your body rest when you need and be kind to yourself

the hair thing I was dreading but it was not that bad I did progressive shorter styles and know have the easiest style ever it actually quite freeing when it goes.

the first one will be okay and nurses are great at making sure you don’t live with side effects keep talking to them

good luck in your treatment x
