Keen to understand how long you waited for a hysterectomy after the initial surgical consultation?

  • Hi Annajh071 welcome to the forum.

Have you been waiting long for this to happen for you?

I'm not sure how long others have waited but things have been held up somewhat by Covid but if you are all worried then please do give the hospital a ring and see if they can tell you when this may happen for you. xxx

  • Hi Gail

Thanks for your response. My mum has an appointment this week Wednesday to discuss the op so just wanted t see how long others have waited x

  • Hi from Feb 22 to Mar 22 when I had surgery in-between where loads of tests scans and more blood tests so about 4 weeks.

  • Hi Shosti

Wow!! How quick is that, I first went to GP in middle of May and my operation is on 20th August ( this Saturday) radical hysterectomy, it’s so scary but at last!!! It has to be done so just have to get on with it. I’m in Isle of Wight x

  • Good luck with your op and hope you have a speedy recovery!

  • Thanks Anna, apparently the anaesthetist favours a spinal anaesthetic I ll meet him tomorrow to have a chat about that , not sure I fancy being awake throughout the op though, wonder how my surgeon feels about that, I can chat to him while he works ha ha the mind boggles, what do you think of it? Has anyone else had a spinal, numb from the waist down?

  • Hi

No, I haven't. It's good progress is being made for you.

I thought I'd provide an update in case anyone else comes across this post, mum has been booked in for surgery on 13th September. She is going to have her ovaries, womb, cervix and omentum removed as a precaution. Method they're using is a robotic keyhole surgery! Apparently the pain is less and she'll only have to be in hospital for one night if nothing unexpected happens.

  • Hi Anna

keyhole surgery is much better, unfortunately I can’t have that, a

mazing that your mum only has to stay one night, apparently they are keeping me for 4 nights but such is life , I ll just rest and recuperate, I ll need that x

  • That's what they've said but also mentioned it could be longer! She has to inject herself with blood thinning injections too for a month on a daily basis x

  • Yes I will have to do that when I go home, the nurses show you how to do them or if you re at home alone and don’t feel happy doing them they will probably ask a district nurse to call x
