Hi

My poor dear mum is seeing a gynaecologist urgently after a CT showed a suspicious tumour. She also has a colonoscopy next week for a stricture in her bowel. I'm quite shocked and believe the two could be related? Anyone of any age in a similar position or have any advice for where we are at this stage of things? She is a young 92 and is out playing cards and mahjong most days.

  • Hi Madee

    Welcome to the Online Community.

I am sorry to hear that your Mum is undergoing testing after a a CT showed something suspicious. I know it is a worrying time for you both.

My own cancer was in my womb but a lot of the testing and treatments are similar as it is a similar area so I hope that it is ok to respond.

I think the main thing is that although the testing can be tough it is necessary to find out exactly what Mum is dealing with and once they know that, then they can look into the best possible treatment for her if it is needed.

It is possible that the area on her ovary is related to her bowel stricture as sometimes cancer can spread a little out of the area it started. It is important for them to know exactly where any cancer maybe to enable them to know how to deal with it.

It sounds like Mum has an active and full life and once all the results are in then they will be able to talk to her about her possible next steps. Mum can of course have you with her. If treatment is needed then it will be very much her choice.

I hope that her colonoscopy goes ok and brings some further clarification about what is going on.

Please do give the Support Line a call if it would help to talk things through. I know for me it felt really hard to wait for my diagnosis and once I knew what I was dealing with, things did feel a bit easier.

    Jane
