Hi everyone

as anyone had chemo for low grade cancer? If so how did you find it and did it work?

I have stage 3c and had surgery in feb to remove all visible cancer which was a success. They have offered me chemo but said it’s my choice as there’s no scientific evidence it’s effective. I just don’t want it coming back! Has anyone made this choice or been in this situation?

thanks

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I just dropped by from the Womb group and noticed you've not yet had a reply from the ladies here. Whilst waiting for someone to come along and offer support and advice I could mention if you type chemo for low grade cancer in the search bar at the top of this page, select anywhere and you should find some answers.

In my own case I had 3 internal radiotherapy sessions (Brachytherapy) which were optional and supposedly Belt and braces to prevent recurrence. So it is your choice but cancer has a habit of reappearing so think carefully.

  • Hi Frightened01 I have low grade and had surgery and all visible cancer was removed. I was stage 3c and offered chemo but told it was in my best interest to have it. I went ahead. I now have NED but neuropathy in both feet which Drs said would go away, it is now a year since chemo and I still have it. I have since had tamoxifen but now on Exemestane.
I see you wrote this 9 months ago…. sorry I’m late with my answer. I am very interested to know how you are doing xx

  • Hi Nanny C

    Thank you for your reply,

I am thankfully NED, I had the same as you Low grade stage 3c, I had surgery in February and they removed all visible cancer. I had lengthy chats with my oncologist and got a 2nd opinion from Christi's and neither one could actually say how effective chemo would be. The study on low grade said the woman who had chemo, if they had a recurrence it would happen a couple of years later than the woman who didn't. I basically got from it that if it's going to come back it's going to come back. I had 1 round of Carboplatin and had some bad side effects so I decided not to have anymore. I'm also not doing hormone therapy because again the side effects are quite bad and there's not enough research for them to say whether or not its going to work and how long I should take it for that kind of thing because i'm only 34 they don't want to take the risk of long term side effects, even then they said it could return. My outlook now is that if it's going to come back regardless of treatment it will, so I have to just hope that my indicial surgery was good enough that it doesn't.  I am really sorry to hear about your experience, I think treatments can be brutal, I hope you're recovering well and hope your neuropathy goes. xx
