Hi, I am just 12 days after my first R-CHOP session.  The pain I had in right hip went day one, so I'm hopeful it's working!,,

I had radiotherapy in March on low grade NHL in bone in sacrum, which then transformed to high grade in a site nearby.

In 2018 I had  my first cancer, low grade NHL in my tonsil. In 2021 it came back in right of neck, both treated successfully with 15 days radiotherapy.

Had only just recovered from effects of last radiotherapy when started this treatment.  Also had gastroenteritis 2 weeks before R-CHOP started.

I had late nausea starting day 5 which was cured with new tablets.  My major issue is I seem to be on a cycle of eat few days, constipation so take laxatives, they work over two days, lose appetite, buildup to eating quite well then constipation again.  I take docusate daily and laxido and up the laxido on 3rd day of constipation. This didn't work last time and I ended up using senokot as advised. This worked but gave me stomach ache for 2 days.

Has anybody with this problem found an answer to keep regular?

I drink prune juice and apple juice most days and eat 2-3 dates. I know I'm not getting enough fibre as not eating enough but trying to!!

Thanks Beeps

  • Hi again  ……first good to hear that you are feeling the benefits of the treatment and yes I would say it is a good sign of it working.

By the time I went for my first chemo (Dec 2013) it looked like I had swallowed a brick!! It was something out of a Tom and Jerry film. My jaw had seized, my gums had swollen and were coming up to cover my teeth. I was having great difficulty eating and was living on a liquid diet and my breathing was being restricted and the pain was off the scale.

I had an initial 15min blast of Vincristine (the O in R-CHOP) and that got me through our family Christmas. It was amazing the difference that first a Chemo blast made to the point I actually had some Christmas dinner.

During that first chemo the staff kept coming in to look in my mouth, they even got a mirror so I could look….. during the first hour post the IV we could actually see my gums going down and my teeth appearing - totally amazing.

I then started my 6 cycles on the 27th Dec 2013

I had 6 cycles of R-EPOCH……. the big brother of R-CHOP.

It was rather full on with me being in hospital 6 days/5 nights on my 2 IV pumps 24/7 for over 120hrs and on the whole so did not have many issues and it did the job it was ment to do…… and for me this was to open the door fir me to have Allograft SCTs.

From day one of my chemo I was told to take one sachet of Laxido every morning all the way through all my treatment including the days I was not on treatments and up the amount of sachets if I had not ‘been’ for a day or so…… I was also in anti-inflammatory meds and these are bad for bunging you up.

I hate anything to do with prunes ;) but I would have granola as part of my breakfast…… not something you get in hospital so I had me own stock…

About cycle 3 I did get rather bunged up but was told to take 8 sachets of Laxido over a period of 16 hrs and by the end of the day everything cleared up.
