Hello all, my mum has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma and started chemotherapy 2 weeks ago. I’ve never known anyone else go through chemo and just wondered what’s normal ??? She hasn’t eaten anything for 10days now, everytime she eats or drinks anything she’s screams in pain from her chest area then gags and brings up bile. She can’t sleep, has no energy, and just generally feels like she would rather die than go through this. They have said she will need about 6-9 rounds of chemo given every 3 weeks. She only has a week to go until her next dose but hasn’t even started to recover for the 1st lot. Surely this isn’t her life for the next 6 months plus ? Please tell me it gets better ? I should add she has been bed bound in hospital for 4 weeks already as she has a huge tumour on her leg that bleeds everytime she moves. Thanks
Hi 1234 and well done navigating across to this corner.
I had over 750hrs of chemo over my 6 cycles with me in hospital 5 nights/6 days on my IV 24/7 for over 120 hrs at a time and I honestly did not have any reactions like this.
The reactions she is having are rather extreme compared to most peoples experiences so if she is at home at the moment I would be calling her chemo helpline number and get advise. If she is in hospital her Haematologist needs to review her chemo regime to see the best way to move this forward.
What type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma dues she have? (there are many types) and do you know the exact name of the chemo regime she is having? (there are a number of types)
Sending supportive ((hugs))
She is in hospital and has been continuously for 5 weeks so far. Her official diagnosis is primary cutaneous diffuse large B cell lymphoma. If that means anything to anyone??
I was diagnosed back in 1999 with Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma…. Cutaneous Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas are rare and hard to treat…...
If your mum is not eating her team should be considering inserting a feeding tube or has this been done already?…… as she needs building up.
It is hard to see someone going through this but let’s look for the treatment to start having a positive effect on her.
Do you know the name of the treatment she is getting?
