Hi, just a quick one, after my 5th session I have been suffering from constant acid reflux. Does anyone have any ideas how to alleviate this and any over the counter medicines that will not effect R-chip treatment.
kind regards
Steve
Hi Steve morning , when I had it I was given 2 glasses of really cold milk but ask the pharmacist first , as I was on a different chemo , but that's what the nurses gave me when I had it , I was on R- CODOX -- M/IVAC , good luck as its not a nice feeling...
Hi Steve Stevezodiac, acid reflux is the pits.
Have you talked this through with your clinical team as there are some meds they can prescribe that may help. I am still on one of them 6 years on.
I found Peptac Antacid helped me in some way and it was cheeper and tasted better than Gaviscon.
As Gypsy rover says milk helped as well especially when taking the many tables that I had to take.
The one thing that bizarrely did work well for me was putting a couple of bricks sized objects under the head end legs (casters) of our bed (with packers under the middle casters).
This raised my head slightly but could sleep in the normal position - just using an extra pillow did not work and I could not get used to it and did not sleep.
Doing this helped the reflex as it tended not to work it's self up as it did when my bed was normal.
Hi
I suffered with a bit of acid reflex. I spoke to my designated nurse and he sorted me out with a prescription for some meds which did the job.
Give them a call, that’s what they’re there for and always happy to help. Don’t suffer, you don’t need to.
Take care, Sarah x
Hi Steve,
I got very nauseous and feeling sick from 4th treatment onwards. The consultants gave me more anti sickness tablets and could take that whenever I needed that extra. I had to cut it in quarters i remember otherwise it would have knocked me out! It did work though. Always ask your consultants first, they have different anti sickness tablets they can give you.
Hi Steve,
I suffered terribly with acid reflux and the normal over the counter stuff did not help neither did the meds they prescribed which gave me other side effects.
What I did find that helped, and I say this cautiously as it's a herbal remedy, was Slippery Elm taken as a drink.
I did my research and printed off a lot of stuff for my consultant to read, to get her permission before taking it. It's important that you ask as it can prevent oral medication being absorbed by your stomach. I used to wait a couple of hours before taking any oral meds. I wouldn't normally take herbal medicines as I'm very sceptical but it worked for me.
But please always ask first if it's ok to take anything.
