The only symptom I had apart from my sore back was very bad hot sweats , but I put that down to my menopause so never crossed my mind it could be cancer , as we don't go around saying it will/won't happen to me , I had 3 emergency trips to hospital with my back they said there was nothing wrong with me & was sent home , 29th May I had to travel 25 miles if I wanted to see a Dr , 9 hours later I was back again , this was when I was then admitted to my local hospital for investigation on 30th May , was told I would get an emergency MRI on Sunday it didn't happen till Tuesday afternoon couldn't stay still so I got another MRI & CT Scan on Wednesday which showed a large mass at the bottom of my back next to my spine , On the Thursday I got a CT Scan and a biopsy , it showed I had a High Grade B cell Lymphoma , Following tests it was found out to be Burkitt's lymphoma , I was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow that's where my journey of denial started , Because of the type of Lymphoma and where it was my chemo was very intensive , was in hospital for 14 weeks , I was on RCODOX M/IVAC chemo which I had 4 cycles of it. If that wasn't bad enough for me I had several episodes of Sepsis , so was put on antibiotics .I suffered psychologically & had several visits from the psychology team , As it was a dream ,this wasn't happening to me & I wanted home to my 2 sons who needed me as they both have Cerebral Palsy and additional support needs.Every day this is a dream why are you keeping me here , where am I , my struggle went on like that for 5 weeks , after the 2nd week my hair fell out so could it get any worse , after 11 weeks in hospital I was allowed home for 5 days to help with my mental health as I struggled badly being away from my boys & my diagnoses... I am now home & got a PET Scan on October and it was clear , so on out patient appointments now...
Hello Gypsy rover. Good to hear the PET scan in October was clear, but what you had to go through to get there is quite something! You caught my eye with the cerebral palsy. One of mine has it too, although thankfully a mild form of it. Still, there is pain, inability to control the body, you know. I hope that your lymphoma now stays dormant for years, the hair grows back, and life can return to some resemblance of normalcy.
Afternoon GreyCats , Thank you for your quick reply , I can't wait till January as a similar pain in the same place has started , think that's why the consultant is sending me for another PET Scan as its one of the best scans you can get , I've had 1 he'll of a year I was to go for an operation on my shoulder.. my pre-op test found inflammation in my bloods but couldn't get an appointment with my gp because of COVID , I am 1 so very lucky lady , back & forward by ambulance , it was getting that the paramedics was joking that I had my own ambulance. My head hair has grown back in I wash it with baby shampoo , which they say is the best for cancer patients , I also take a hard bristled brush to my head several times a day which I think is helping with my growth rate. Best of all I got my boys well young men 29/26 yrs home for a few day and again on the 31st for another few days , best present ever ..
On the ambulance joke: the one in my local hospital is that they are going to start charging me rent. The baby shampoo sounds like a really good idea, I may try it myself. (I lost all hair during chemo, then a soft fuzz appeared, now I am back on chemo so we'll see.)
I hope you get good news as a result of the scan. I know what it is like to wait so I hope you are scheduled for early January, and in the meamtime, have a great time with your boys!
I was reading up on symptoms & what can happen , Hair loss was the 1st & it says as it's growing back baby shampoo is the most mildest , kindness for your scalp & hair , I use it every other day , so I'm still encouraging my own natural hair oils I take a brush to my head several times a day , I was up at Hospital last Thursday with a wee something for the staff & I took my wig off , they couldn't believe the hair growth already , so something's working. I just wished hospitals would listen to the patient instead of saying nothing wrong with you go home , in future I'm sticking to my guns if I think something is up I'm wanted tested
