Just finishing my first Chemo and tomorrow will start my FILGRASTIM (SUBCUTANEOUS) 5 injections and just realised they have not been kept in the fridge! They have been left in the kitchen no room in fridge? Kitchen has been cold most of the time and they are in the fridge now, will they be ok to take? Not panicking but anxious.

  • Hi , I was on them each day for 4 months after my second Stem Cell Transplant.

People get different information. I kept them in the fridge but I was given 4 months supply!!!!

I was told to take the days injection unit out before breakfast and let it come to room temperature then do the jab after breakfast.

I have talked with other who were never told to keep them in the fridge and they still worked with no problems.

I took a few Paracetamol with breakfast then did the injection. Pinched an inch of skin on the tummy, needle straight in, inject, then straight out - do not rub the injection area as this developed the bruises.....and make sure to change positions left, middle and right fit every injection.

One of the side effect is bone pain as the injections are making the bone marrow work over time I had no real bone pain.

I was told that this was down to my team prescribing Piriton or Clarityn Antihistamine as this bizarrely stopped the pain developing, these were taken as per the dose instructions - worth talking your team about this as not a lot of hospitals do this.

As always if you are not sure call your team.
