I am new to this group  diagnosed in 2020 with low grade NHL localised in my neck and put on watch and wait.

My team has been brilliant but the lump on my neck as grown so now its time for 12 rounds of radiotherapy starting tomorrow, weds 29th.

I have had my mask fitting and I got a bit panicky after 18 minutes and it's something I will talk to my radiotherapy department tomorrow.

How did everyone else cope with the mask, my anxiety is building already and I don't know why as I work in really confined spaces every day so I know it's not claustrophobia.

If it had eye holes in it I would probably feel better but that's something I need to ask..

Again, I am glad I joined this group and follow all you lovely people on our journey Heart

  • Hi  and welcome to our corner of the community.

What type of low grade NHL do you have?

was diagnosed in 1999 with a rather rare and difficult to treat Stage 4a Low Grade Cutaneous T-Cell (skin) Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

As part of my years of treatments (hit my name for my story) I had 45 sessions of Radiotherapy so have had both a full lead face mask, a moulded mask and also an upper body mould.

The setting up is torture but once you get into treatments each session is over very quickly - these are my two bad boys Joy

…… I did not get to keep the lead one as the lead can be reused.

I found that focusing on ‘the greater good’ in this helps, this is only a temporary bump in the road to get you back on a healthier path.

All the best and do come back and tell us how you hit on with your first treatment.

Hi Folks great to hear there is a forum with like minded people. I was diagnosed with NHL 24 December 2019, I was told it was very slow growing, and put on watch and wait.

I have had 2 follow up appointments obviously during the pandemic, I have recently had a really nasty virus was tested for Covid but it was thankfully neg.

I am still coughing but no where near as bad but I am conserned in case it is related to the tumor in my trachea or having any affect on it but don't want to waste the consultants time,

I keep hoping it will settle down my next consultation is due early ish next year.

    What to do?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to you.

Sorry to hear you have had a virus, there are indeed a few nasty non-Covid viruses doing the rounds but it’s to be expected as people are mixing more now.

What type of NHL do you have?

Over my 22+ years I was always told to call stuff into my consultant or Specialist Cancer Nurse (If you have one) as they would much prefer to say something is not a problem than find out late and have to firefight ((hugs))
