I have a diagnosis of MALT lymohoma.  It has shaken me to the core. I am awaiting results from tests to see if it has spread beyond my stomach. If I have to have chemo, what can I expect? What are some good sites to get educated on the chemo drugs they use?

  • Hi  and welcome to our corner of the Community. Being diagnosed with a blood cancer can indeed shake you to the core..... but once you get to know more information and talk with others you will start to realise that this is not all bad news, indeed blood cancer on the whole are very treatable and should not be seen in the same light as solid tumour cancers.

Malt NHL (link)also known as extranodal marginal zone lymphoma is a slow-growing type of NHL. It most commonly develops in the stomach (when it is called gastric MALT lymphoma) but it can develop in other parts of the body as well.

It is one of over 60 types of Lymphoma and on the whole these are all very treatable with great results, some like my rare skin Lymphoma can be just a touch more challenging (hit my community name to see my story) but I am coming up to my 5th Remission birthday and doing great.

Chemo? you will see form my story that I had extreme chemo, very few folks walk this journey. But even with the amount of chemo I had I did very well through out it, yes some bumps in the road but all do-able.

Once you know the full extent of your treatment plan come back with the names and we will find some information for you, I say this are there are many types of chemo used as this is all targeted to how your condition is presenting and often two people with the same condition walk a diffrent treatment journey.

    What test have you had?

What hospital you being seen at?

You will have lots of questions - put them up and we will help you walk this.

It’s always good to talk, our Macmillan support line is open every day from 8am to 8pm and it's free to call. Clicking here will give you more information on what the Support Line offers. Alternatively, if it's easier for you then you can email them or use the online chat.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    Always around to help.
