Hi
Antone have advice for visiting a parent with NHL during Covid?
I Would really like to go and see my Mum but worried I will take And pass her something not just covid.
I know chemo can weaken the immune system but also have not seen her since March before lockdown, now she’s been diagnosed with NHL and feel its still not safe to visit when she’s at home.
Anyone have suggestions on safe visiting the home?
It’s a hard one and it would be good for you both to get together.
During chemotherapy the time when her immune system is most vulnerable is normally days 7-14. This is when there is an increased risk of infection so important to look out for these times.
Even if you consider an initial visit outside, safe distance with masks and see how it goes....... with no hugs. I know this may be hard but could be a positive step for you both.
I kept visiting my children and having them visit me while I was having chemo. We were ruthless about handwashing and social distancing, and my toddler grand-daughter was only allowed to hug my knees.
Honestly, it's a matter of balancing risks. If you are well and have no known exposure, and you're strict about infection control, then it comes down to whether seeing you in person would be a greater benefit to your mother than not seeing you. In my case there was no doubt, but it's a decision everyone has to weigh for themselves.
Hello ,
I see my children and my grandchildren weekly. But outside on the patio, and we are ruthless about hand washing and wearing masks. WE have had meals out on the patio. It is a matter of risk vs benefit. Being outside is best. and it has worked for us.
Good luck and well wishes
Millie
My daughter visited me every couple of weeks while I was going through chemo although she didn't come when she had a cold. I also share house with my son who went to work and so on as usual. I was fine.
