  • Hi,

I am worried I may have a form of NHL.

I had cervical cancer 6 years ago and was given the all clear thankfully and 3 months ago I was discharged from the cancer hospital.

Since then symptoms have been happening. I have petechiae on my left foot, pain in my left leg and fatigue. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a lump in my armpit. I saw a GP who thinks it maybe fatty tissue but felt a small swollen lymph node deep in my armpit and referred me to a breast clinic for which I have an appointment in over 2 weeks. I did phone my old oncologist secretary and she told me to contact my GP as I have been discharged.

When I was going for my annual check ups at the cancer hospital a small swollen lymph node was picked up in.my groin and was decided to keep an eye on it as I was in good health. When I was admitted to hospital in 2019 there wasn't any sign of it and my bloods were.good.

I am worried if it was cancer it may have spread and there isn't anything they can do.

    I worry all the time.

Take care all and stay safe,

    Lisa x

  • Hi Lisa, sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing. Lymph nodes react for many many reasons and the positive is it’s mostly down to other reasons rather than cancer.

You need to work with your GP to get answers, Lymphoma as a cancer is very complicated, difficult to diagnose and it’s rather unusual to develop for another cancer.

A simple Google search using some of your issues will indeed hit on a blood cancer but looking further it could be lots of other reasons.

    ((hugs))

  • Hi Mike,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am so worried and I don't know what to do. I am panicking because the breast clinic appointment is over 2 weeks away and they may miss some form of lymphoma or if I have a cancer it is getting worse.

I think I will contact my GP tomorrow.

    Thank you,

    Lisa x

  • Lisa, if and I say a big IF this was one of the 60 types of Lymphoma a few weeks even months would not make any difference in the long run. It took a year for my rare type of NHL to be diagnosed.

This may sound very simple but until you are told different, you don’t have Lymphoma.

Remeber that lymph nodes are very reactive and will react badly to stress and worry so as you can’t actually change anything do your best to park the negative thoughts and look at the positives from the past few years.

  • Lisa, there is always a chance of another cancer coming along as our bodies ability to fight will have been reduced ever so slightly.

Intact I have been told that I have a very high chance of developing skin cancer due to the 16 years of skin treatment I have had...... but if or when it comes along I will just deal with it the same as I have done for over 21 years. But there is no chance I will let it define me.

No point making any wild guesses, run with the tests and see what comes along.
