Hi everyone hope everyone is doing well, I thought I would give you all a up date on my situation.

Well I've been in hospital for over a month now, after having my stem cell transplant, it all started on the 5th September when I went up to Derriford for my transplant, 5 days of chemotherapy a day of fluid and then the stem cell transplant, all went well and I was transferred down to Truro for the recovery.

Well the recovery was tough very tough, I was bed risen for a week solid, couldn't do anything a part for sleep, which was what was needed,I was at Truro for about 3 weeks now I'm at Penzance still trying to recover,I've not eaten properly since. I've been in Truro, plus I've lost about 12 kilo,I'm just not interested in food, so I'm just eating small amounts of food as I know I need to build my strength up,so I can go home soon hopefully as I don't know when.

I shall keep you all up dated take care

  • Hi it is so good to hear from you.

It sounds like it’s going ok, yes, going off food can be a standard reaction but the ‘small and often’ grazing diet is the way forward.

I was like this for about 3 months post SCT number 2 - so lots and lots of mugs of good homemade soups with cream, mashed potatoes with a little cream and cheese, nuts, scrambled eggs and porridge...... well I had to have porridge with cream, this all kept me going.

I also took a liking for energy bars that were on offer at Tesco........ but fortifying drinks - no way, totally disgusting.

A week in bed will take time to recover from, we have these signs everywhere in my local hospital and it is so true.

......so I must have been 110 when I got home.

We also have this thread over in the SCT Group where you will find other peoples experiences post SCT Life after a SCT - A Survivor's Guide
