Hi everyone. I’ve not been on for some months now trying to get on with my life since cancer. I was diagnosed with T cell NHL late 2017 , had radiotherapy and then CHOP Chemo 6 sessions with 3 weeks in between each. The last lump I had was March and now healed. Lost my hair and felt pretty weak and ill but now getting stronger and the hair is growing very well. The trouble is I have dreadful back ache and every now and then feel so weak and tired. Is this normal and have anyone else gone through this. I am worried it’s the cancer or is it the aftermath of the Chemo. Sending love and good wishes to you all xxx
Hi Katy, well done getting through all your treatment.
The fact that you were “pretty weak” during your treatment tells me that you most likely were not very active. Even now you are still having some times of weakness and being tired....... this is all down to your treatment and it does take much longer than you think to rebuild your energy levels and the muscle wastage that happened during this time.
I also had back aches following my treatments and it was all put down to the lack of regular activity/exercise but I did have some back issues before I started treatments...... but I was told to get on with life, building up the stuff I did and it all worked its self out.
As long as your team know and are happy then keep on keeping on - it will improve with more activity ((hugs))
Hi Mike. Lovely to hear from you and thank you for your kind wise words. Have helped a lot. Your caring words helped me so much when I was going through treatments. I was so grateful to you and John as I’m sure many others are too. I think you are right that I need to try gentle exercise or at least get moving more. Hope you are keeping well. Lots of hugs xxx
I am doing great Katy and it is great that you are ‘getting on’ with life as best as you can.
I had a lot of pain especially in my neck where my main growth was as I had damaged nerves.
My physiotherapist told me to find an exercise class where I would have regular, targeted exercise. I found a circuits class in my local Maggie’s Centre and that made such a difference as the instructors were cancer trained. Some local Community Centres have cancer trained instructors - so worth a check.
I know that Macmillan do a ‘Move More’ course - check this link to see if there is anything near you Local Macmillan Support
