Hi

can anyone please help? My wife was diagnosed with CNS lymphoma in Feb 2017 , went through matrix chemo and stem cell transplant  and thankfully doing well, however has just been diagnosed with breast cancer which has spread to the lymph . Awaiting full ct scan to chalk it hasn't spread elsewhere before starting treatment. Waiting is hell!!! You just want to get on with treatment. My wife has become very agitated obviously fearing the worse. Can people survive 2 different types of cancer? Please anyone who has get in touch for reassurance !

thanks

  • Hi unfortunately I belong to the two cancer club. When my lymphoma was diagnosed by ct scan a kidney tumour was also found so a double diagnosis on the same day!! I had the kidney plus the tumour removed in January.

the hardest part for me has been accepting that yes hopefully the kidney cancer has been removed but that I still have the lymphoma to deal with. My thoughts are split it two. Kidney cancer/lymphoma. I’m trying to live in the present as much as possible as I can’t change the past or what may come. I’m on watch and wait for the lymphoma. But it’s not easy. I do hope your wife gets a treatment plan soon. Knowing what was going to happen next helped me.

  • Hi, sorry to see you posting about your wife having a second cancer, over the 10 years I have been on the site the have been a small number of women who have had a similar experience to your wife and also a small number where it has been the reverse, Bc then lymphoma. The simple answer is yes people can survive a number of cancers I know a number who have had 2 and a couple who have had more, it does happen on rare occasions.

The best advice which is easy to give and hard to follow, is pause, breathe and take things a day at a time, worrying about the what ifs at this stage will exhaust you both. Once she has a full diagnosis and treatment plan, that's the time to ask questions and seek support from the breast cancer group. The is a lot of experience in the group and everyone shares a lot supporting and advising on how to deal with what treatment throws at you.

take care and any help we can offer we will

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am so sorry to see the circumstance that brought you here.

Unfortunately, this does happen and I have actually meet a few folks at my local clinic who have come the other way developing Lymphoma and being successfully treated following other cancers.

Its all about getting clear information and getting a plan together to get through this.

You may want follow this link to our Breast cancer forum where you will be able to connect with men and women who understand the journey your wife is on. You can ask the folks questions about treatments, what to expect and how to help her during this time.

Follow the link above then hit the ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name. At this point it is good to go to the right on the group home page and select how you want to receive email notifications when someone answers your posts. If in the future you don’t want to receive notifications just switch off the email notifications tab.

It is worth putting some information in your profile. This really helps others when answering. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself.

To do this click on YOUR username, look to the left and select 'Edit Profile'. Put as much or as little in your profile and you can amend it at any time - REMEMBER hit the big green SAVE before you leave the page. If you're not sure what to write you can take a look at any members profiles by clicking on their username.

    Always around to help out.

    Hello Cream Legbar,

Welcome to our Community, and very sorry to hear about your wife's dual cancer diagnosis. Did they tell you if the CNS lymphoma is NHL? If so, did they do a biopsy and tell you which type the NHL it is? That would be an important piece of information. Has the CNS lymphoma ceased to exist? What did the PET/CT show? Do they think the bc is an extension of the NHL or is it a separate issue? Did they do a biopsy of the bc? I am wondering about timeline and the chicken or the egg question.   It would help if you put details in your profile including cancer types, timeline, etc.

Johnr and the thehighlander are our Champions at the NHL site and have been very helpful to an uncountable number of people including me.  I am a newbie to the site but stand with Johnr and the highlander and the rest of the Community to help by sharing my experiences and just being here to read when you post. If I have any insights, I will pop in with a reply. You are not alone.

    Warm regards,

    Millie

Hi, the CNS lymphoma was a NHL type and was dealt with. The BC is unconnected to that ,a complete new entity.
