Hi guys..

My wife was diagnosed with NHL follicular variant six years ago. She has been asymptomatic with waxing and waning. We just had a kid in December and all was well. Since the last two days she has developed a bloated abdomen. The ultrasound revealed multiple enlarged peripancreatic and splenic hilar lymph nodes with minimal ascites.

The doctors are suggesting chemo but some are suggesting to wait

Kindly opine if anyone had similar experiences .

  • Hi again Max , sorry to hear this news.

Can’t give you much help as I have no helpful experience but I would be asking how they know that this the NHL? When was the last biopsy done to check.

Lets look for some of the others to pick up on your post.

  • Hi Max, I would suggest you post on the FNHL group page as the are a number who have been or are on watch and wait an they can share their stories including what triggered treatment after a long wait.

It would be normal for the doctor to explain why treatment now, the benefits and what the impact of continuing to wait would be, if they don't then your wife cannot make an informed decision.

I would also ask for a CT scan to see if the is any other change since her last scan and also as a baseline for now whether treatment starts or not.

If she does go down the treatment route then the next question is which one and why as the are at least 4 options available and with FNHL once one has been used it cannot be used again, so its not always straight forward.

any questions just ask and someone will normally be able to offer an answer.
