Hi everyone,

I’ve not posted here for 4 years and I’m awfully sad to be here again but I know this community as a safe space.

My father was diagnosed with HIV driven Burkitt Lymphoma back in Oct 2018. After enduring only 3 out of 4 cycles of R-CODOX-M-IVAC he made it into complete remission in March 2019 and had been living a glorious life of golfing and holidaying like he used to pre-diagnosis.

Unfortunately now, his team have found ‘tumours in the stomach’ after a history of abdo pain/lethargy. They will biopsy him this coming Wednesday. I’m heartbroken for Dad Disappointed The first time almost killed him at least twice and he was 64 back then. I don’t know if his body could handle more chemo again. They didn’t give him the 4th cycle because his body was so hit from the last 3 (multiple febrile neutropenic episodes, severe mucositis and bleeds on the brain from low platelets). There was also an incidental finding of 2 pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs) during this CT - we could have lost him then too Disappointed

Does anyone have any experience of relapse BL? Is this definitely a relapse or a different cancer? I ask this because he has no B symptoms.

Thanks Pray tone3

  • Hi again  and sorry to read your update.

Having relapsed multiple times over my 23 years I understand in part what is going on but each Lymphoma type is so different so can’t say how this will actually develop.

I honestly can’t answer your questions with regards to if this is definitely a relapse or a different cancer?….. and not having B symptoms does not automatically say that this is not BL.

I have talked with many people who had B symptoms at initial diagnosis and no B symptoms at Relapse.

Let’s see if there are any members still active or on the site who have BL and had the same experiences.

At this point in time you gave to

  • Thank you Mike, your dedication to this forum really is something else.

So we’ve been told it’s mostly likely a cholangiocarcinoma. Nothing to do with with the BL or HIV. I’m so so gutted.

I guess I’ll be seeking support from a different group now.

    best wishes x
