She had a lump in her neck around 2/3 weeks ago and just forgot about it because it was so small however she noticed it again yesterday as it had got a lot bigger. is this something that normally happeneds? should she speak to a doctor? she is so worried about it any advice would be great, thank you so much.
Hi LivGrace and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
Sorry to hear about your nanas Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) diagnosis. NHL is a cancer that grows in the bodies Lymphatic-System and this consists of what are called Lymph-Nodes.
Our Lymph-Nodes naturally rise and fall when we get ill, so if you get the flu the nodes rise and when you get better the node goes down.
When someone has a NHL diagnosis their Lymph-Nodes will be more reactive as they are continually fighting their cancer.
The fact that she had been diagnosed with NHL means that she must have contact information for her hospital clinical team…… she should call this in to them as it’s them that can decide if this is a problem.
If your nana has not had any treatment and is on what we call Active Monitoring (Watch and Wait) she should definitely call this in as this is part of the process of monitoring what her NHL is doing.
I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Stage 4a). I am now 7 years out from my last treatment and 6 years in remission and my Lymph-Nodes are still reactive and even this past week they have been up as I have had a bad could and a slight cough but it’s not my NHL….. it’s easy to worry so do call this in.
Always around to help ((hugs))
