Hi. I'm now on my 6th (and hopefully final) session of DRC chemo. Since the 4th session I have gagged and sicked up some chemo pills. They're so small it's unbelievble!
I nearly did it with the first lot today. I was very sick for the first 2 sessions but new tablets have settled that to occassional. However they taste horrid.
But I believe this is psychological. I know it kills of good and bad cells. Maybe as I'm improving I resent the good cells going and making me feel so ill. My mind says swallow the things and my body says stop poisoning me. Can I get some encouragement to take one day at the time and believe it is really the best thing to finish the course. I know its only three more weeks of feeling so bad. But it's hard.
Hi HamaM and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable type of NHL Stage 4a so I appreciate the challenges of this journey well.
Taking pills is truly a mind game. You can see my treatment journey if you hit my community name but at the height of my second Stem Cell Transplant I was on about 40 pills a day. The worst was the 8 massive Immunosuppressant capsules….. The smell was disgusting and made me sick but it was essential that I had to take them as if I didn’t my body would attack my new Stem Cells, my graft would fail and as this was my last treatment option I would go onto palliative care…… so yes the various drugs are there for a reason.
A family friend who is a palliative care nurse told me to rub some Vick menthol rub under my nose, take mouthfuls of carbonated water, put a few tabs in and swallow the lot….. I had to do this 5 or 6 times day and night but it worked.
The Vick broke the smell triggers and the fizzy water played with the muscles and nerves in my mouth and throat so reducing the reaction triggers.
You have come so far - don’t lose sight of the greater good in all this.
Hi, I can't swallow tablets any time so they gave me liquid for some drugs, dissolvable/dispersible for others and crushable for others. The hospital pharmacy even gave me a crusher. If it's prednisolone you need they can give you dissolvable ones, they did for me. Just ask them.
