Hi, I am a 48 year old man, active and completely healthy until I was admitted to hospital with a UTI in June.

This prompted various scans and I was diagnosed with cancer early July but due to no obvious primary it took a further 2 months of biopsies and scans to try and determine more detailed information.

By late August it was confirmed as multiple NETs in lymph nodes of my neck, chest, abdomen, but still of unknown origin.

I was told that any treatment would be considered palliative only.

Eventually starting chemo in September (Carboplatin and Etopicide) I have just yesterday started my 4th cycle.

I have only recently got over the initial shock of it all and got brave enough to start finding out more about this thing I have and start asking questions.

However, I have not discussed prognosis - apart from the chemo I feel fit and healthy and am scared that will change if numbers and times start getting discussed.

  • Hi

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experiences.

I can quite understand why you feel that you might not feel so fit and healthy if "numbers and times start getting discussed". I assume by that you're talking about your prognosis and possible amount of time you might have left. However, it's entirely up to you if you want to or don't want to talk this through with your medical team. They won't discuss these sorts of things with you if you don't want them to.

    Wishing you all the best

Yes, by numbers and times I do mean prognosis and time left. Although after this course of chemo I will probably ask the dreaded questions so that my wife and I can start planning as many good memories as possible while we still have time.
