My friend has terminal endocrine cancer and is now starting to experience pain and is trying to say she's ok but she very clearly isn't. I feel helpless and just wondering if it's cos she doesn't want to take the morphine pain killers... Would they knock her out?? Oromorph and there's another one I thing is zomorph  or similar. I don't want her to be in pain but also get that she doesn't want to be knocked out by pain killers .... Any information about this would be great . Thank you

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that your friend is starting to experience pain and it must be very hard for you to see her struggling.

I haven't been on either Oramorph or Zomorph so don't have any first hand experience of what the side effects of these drugs are. You might find this information from Macmillan useful.

  • JEM76,

I know how you feel. My wife had to take these as well. They worked for a while in the earlier periods but toward the end, sadly, even they had little impact at home. I have to say however that initially they did not stop her from doing things and it was a matter of them relieving the pain. Perhaps this message could be related to your friend?

I think, but do not know, it may be the case that people react in different ways.

    My best wishes to all.

  • Thank you for your reply. It is a bit worrying that she is on these now but I've just spoken to her and we are going to plan the next few weeks whilst she still can do things ok with pain killers cos I am pretty to the point and we don't pussy foot around what's going on but said that whatever she wants to do with whomever she needs to get onto it cos the clock is very literally ticking. Thank you
