Waiting diagnosis

I’m waiting for the outcome of the MDT team to see what further investigation they decide before treatment.

My CT scan showed a lesion in the third part of my duodenum.

My symptoms include only being able to eat a very restricted diet. Sever weight loss. Pain in the said area with it ‘setting hard to touch with a pulse’. Skin rashes and scaling. Headaches. Flushing. Itching skin and scalp. Hair loss. And the symptom that has really flumexed all of the consultants, leg pain that has ended my mobility so hardly able to walk with a stick. This unfortunately has left me unable to work or drive and housebound. Oh, and also insomnia.

Are there any others with these symptoms? I’ve been waiting for news of the MDT for the last two weeks so it’s really frustrating as I live on my own and have gone from being incredibly active, running my own business and walking my dogs seven to ten miles a day to some days not being able to stand up. This has gone on since January so it’s been a really tough year as my elderly parents have to come in every day to help me (I’m 49).

This all started five years ago and the symptoms waxed and waned before becoming chronic.

Any information would be very gratefully received, even on timing from diagnosis to treatment.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Waiting for the results of tests, etc is an incredibly hard time and it sounds like you've had a really hard year. Have you been allocated a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) yet? If you have you could give her a ring to see if the MDT meeting has happened yet and when and how you're likely to hear the results. Usually these meetings happen once a week and all the previous week's patients are discussed and treatments are decided. If you don't have a CNS then give your consultant's secretary a call and she should be able to tell you when you're likely to hear.

I hope you don't have too much longer to wait.

Hi RubyRuew. I have just read your post and was wondering how you have been doing.  I'm 50, live by myself half of the time and have my teenager with me the rest of the time. I also have a dog and enjoy walking. I have medullary thyroid cancer, diagnosed in late 2014, operated on in 2015. Just recently I have started new treatments which have left me incapacitated and relying on family and friends like yourself. I just thought I would say Hi! and see if you were OK and had heard anything more regarding a diagnosis. Best wishes, Kam14.
