I am due to start third line chemo. On my drug sheet I have been given OLANZAPINE anti sickness along with ONDANSETRON & CYCLIZINE also both anti sickness but the OLANZAPINE came with a 6 page information sheet which was very scary to read. Just wondering if anyone has take this drug and is it as bad as it sounds. Any comments would be much appreciated.

  • You say that you want any comments, so here goes even though I had never heard of it before!

You say that Olanzapine is anti-sickness, but that it not what I am reading. It seems to be a treatment for anxiety, depression etc.

Yes, the list of potential side effects and the list of what should not should be taken with it (at least not without confirmation to go ahead) is very long.

Whilst you may be suffering from anxiety, depression etc, my reading up also indicates that those are not frequent side effects of SVD. Mind you, when I was on DVRd (obviously some overlap there), I did have short episodes of low moods, and I believe that the treatment caused that.

  • Chicken2, many thanks for your reply & link to the drug which is more informative than the leaflet I was given. I cannot see any relevance to this drug & myeloma chemo & have since spoken to a MacMillan nurse who couldn’t find any connection to SVD so I will have to take it up with hospital. DVR was my second line of treatment but unfortunately didn’t work for me.
