Hi Everyone. I was diagnosed with Myeloma in January 2020, following many years of being diagnosed with MGUS. I had five rounds on chemotherapy, followed by a stem call transplant in August 2020, where I was a hospital inpatient for around three weeks. Since then, on my regular three monthly follow up appointments ( blood tests done about 2 weeks previously) all is well and I am 'in remission'. I am 68 years old by the way.
My main issue since has been peripheral neuropathy, particularly in my feet and lower legs, which causes me to have bad nights sleep. Almost like restless leg syndrome I think. My GP has put me on Gabapentin, which didn't work too well, and now for the last two months, pregabalin, which really has made no improvement to the nerve pain. Does anyone have any suggestions, or how they may have overcome this? I'm not sure what else to say at the moment, and I hope I haven't said too much here.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
When I developed peripheral neuropathy in the soles of my feet, my consultant and my clinical nurse both independently suggested vitamin B6. This has worked for me.
However, Chat-GPT says "Doctors often suggest a B-complex formulation with:
B₁ (thiamine) — 100 mg
B₆ (pyridoxine) — 10–25 mg
B₁₂ (methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin) — 500–1000 µg"
By the way, more is not always better: huge doses of B6 can actually makes things worse.
Hi, I have had peripheral neuropathy in my legs and feet since my stem cell transplant 2 years ago. Im on the highest dose of pregablin and vitamin B6 tablets 3 times a day. To be honest, nothing really has worked for me and my consultant says sometimes the feeling never returns so I just have to put up with it. Its a small price to pay for being in remission tho.. Everyone is different tho. We are always here to help if we can.
Hi. I am 18 months post SCT. Also 68. Male with neuropathy. I take Pregablin. Morning. Afternoon and late evening 2-3 hours before bedtime. It can be very painful and consuming with lack of sleep. I find if I can keep my mind occupied I don’t feel it as much. Gets worse after 3-4 pm. Consultant says it’s from the treatment for the MM. of the DVTB Cycles I put up with it the best I can Kevin
