Hi Everyone. I was diagnosed with Myeloma in January 2020, following many years of being diagnosed with MGUS. I had five rounds on chemotherapy, followed by a stem call transplant in August 2020, where I was a hospital inpatient for around three weeks. Since then, on my regular three monthly follow up appointments ( blood tests done about 2 weeks previously) all is well and I am 'in remission'. I am 68 years old by the way.

My main issue since has been peripheral neuropathy, particularly in my feet and lower legs, which causes me to have bad nights sleep. Almost like restless leg syndrome I think.  My GP has put me on Gabapentin, which didn't work too well, and now for the last two months, pregabalin, which really has made no improvement to the nerve pain.  Does anyone have any suggestions, or how they may have overcome this? I'm not sure what else to say at the moment, and I hope I haven't said too much here.

  • Hi and welcome to the forum.

When I developed peripheral neuropathy in the soles of my feet, my consultant and my clinical nurse both independently suggested vitamin B6. This has worked for me.

However,  Chat-GPT says "Doctors often suggest a B-complex formulation with:

    B₁ (thiamine) — 100 mg

    B₆ (pyridoxine) — 10–25 mg

B₁₂ (methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin) — 500–1000 µg"

By the way, more is not always better: huge doses of B6 can actually makes things worse.

  • Hi, I have had peripheral neuropathy in my legs and feet since my stem cell transplant 2 years ago. Im on the highest dose of pregablin and vitamin B6 tablets 3 times a day.  To be honest, nothing really has worked for me and my consultant says sometimes the feeling never returns so I just have to put up with it.  Its a small price to pay for being in remission tho.Pray.  Everyone is different tho.  We are always here to help if we can.

  • Hi.  I am 18 months post SCT. Also 68. Male with neuropathy.   I take Pregablin.   Morning. Afternoon and late evening 2-3 hours before bedtime.    It can be very painful and  consuming with lack of sleep.     I find if I can keep my mind occupied I don’t feel it as much.    Gets worse after 3-4 pm.     Consultant says it’s from the treatment for the MM. of the DVTB Cycles      I put up with it the best I can      Kevin

  • Thanks  - I will take a look into B complex

  • Thank you. Are you able to say what  dosage you are on?  I am in the process of asking my GP to up the dose I am on.  I agree , PN is a small price to pay for being in remission, but when I am pacing the cold kitchen floor at 3 or 4 in the morning because I can't sleep, its so bad. Then I'm not so sure!

  • Thanks for your reply Kevin. Mine always seem to be worse at night. I have been on Pregabalin for a couple of months now so I am hoping for an improvement Pray

  • Oh i really feel for you.  When I go out i have to hold on to my husband as I am not very good on my feet as they are totally numb up to my calves and I feel very unstable.  I am on 600 mg of Pregablin, 300mg in the morning then again in the evening.  I take one vitamin B 12 tablet 4 times a day.  Ive been on these for 18 months now. I don't have pain but have quite bad cramps in my toes and calf muscles.  I sometimes worry I  have been taking the Pregablin for so long but  worry what my neuropathy would be like without it.  I hope this helps and hope you soon get some relief.  Take care

  • Hi i have peripheral neuropathy which at first was very painful. My consultant sent me for reflexology and acupuncture 6 sessions of each and also a procedure called tapping which is a bit new world but really helpful to relax and get you off to sleep .My condition has improved greatly and also a foot and leg massage from my wife helped aswell   .

  • Thank you for replying. My GP has started me on 100mg pregabalin (50mg in morning and 50mg evening). I have asked her to up the dosage, but cannot get an appointment , even a telephone one, till end of November. Triumph  I just feel so worn out when I don't get a good nights sleep because of it.

I hope your cramps ease, Bunky. and again I do appreciate your reply.

  • Hi and thanks for replying. I have tried acupuncture before for another issue, and it did no good at all. Perhaps I should give it a try for peripheral neuropathy. I do try to massage my own feet and calves before bed.  I shall certainly investigate tapping. Not heard of it,
