Hi that’s me a week in and after my second Bortezomib injection yesterday i can only describe my energy levels today as absent.
I have felt like a zombie all day and just keep drifting in and out of sleep, I was advised by my Myeloma nurse that this was likely but didn’t expect it to be so extreme.
Just wondering if this is something anyone else has experienced.
I’m thinking if there are any supplements (liquid or other) that have been introduced that has given you more energy , I.e protein shakes / multi vits etc
Ive taken pre workout shakes and recovery drinks for years as a triathlete but really interested to hear what other options are available that have been tried and tested or recommended by nutritionists.
Thanks
I would just flag that Bortezomib and Vitamin C supplements do not mix: "Bortezomib alone significantly inhibited tumor growth while vitamin C alone showed no effect. Importantly, vitamin C (40 mg/kg/day) completely blocked bortezomib-mediated anti-cancer effect."

Likewide Bortezomib and green tea extract.
Hi again Cbar70 as Chicken2 has said do check out any vitamins and supplements with your clinical team as some vitamins and supplements do have a negative effect on some treatments.
The less you do the more fatigued you will get…. !!!
I asked my very first nurse for some advice for getting through the Chemo and she told me, eat, even when you feel you can't do it, try.
Sleep when you are tired but keep active, small but often spells of activity. During the day at home when I was nodding off on the chair my wife would set an alarm on my phone for about 45mins…… doing this helped me to rest but not overdo it that I ended up not sleeping at night.
As for activity…… on the first day of my treatment the nurse came round after after every meal (I was an inpatient for 6 days for each cycle of my 6 treatments) and she took me and Laurel and Hardy (my two Chemo pumps) for a walk round the corridors of the ward…….. I continued to do this each and ir turned out that I was actually doing about 2k a day….. and once home I was doing little activities including small walks throughout the day…… it is actually a mind set that needs to be developed.
On the whole the chemo journey was ok and the exercise did help overcome some of the fatigue, sounds so counterintuitive, but exercise does actually help.
These signs are everywhere in our Heamatology Ward and Clinic…..
Really appreciate you taking time to respond, my challenge is that as a result of the Myeloma I have two fractured vertebrae at L1 & L4 that are an added bonus and until these are in a better place I’m restricted with activity but I’m a stubborn git so intend to get mobile as soon as I’m able to.
How are you getting on?
Sorry I was abrupt in my previous message. I saw "Bortezomib" and "Supplements" being mentioned together. I do a lot of technical reading on MM and remembered that one has to be particularly cautious in combining Bortezomib with vitamins and supplements.
I know that it is tough for you now. The treatment does not go on for ever. I went through it and had some loss of energy but have been in remission for well over a year now with a good level of energy.
Please talk to your consultant. If the total lack of energy is continuing, perhaps they can prescribe a lower dose. If it is getting really tough for you, maybe switch from Bortezomib to something else?
