Possible relapse for my sister

Hi I joined the forum today but was also a member in 2021. My sister had the ‘good standard’ treatment for multiple myeloma in 2021 and has had 4 years of a great life with the expected adjustments. She has been unwell for the past 4 weeks with diarrhoea. She has taken Imodium but this is not great with her current medication- I am concerned for her and although the team looking after her know about this should we be worried? Any thoughts or advice would be so greatly received - Serve Cilled

  • Your subject heading indicates that you are worried that your sister's diarrhoea could mean that she is relapsing.

You mention that she is on 'medication'. If she is on myeloma medication, then that could well include lenalidomide (brand name Revlimid) or conceivably thalidomide or pomalidomide. Is that right?

This group of chemo drugs can start to have side effects over time. I know this from my own experience. At 18 months remission, I started getting diarrhoea: the consultant reduced my dose of lenalidomide. The diarrhoea eased off.

  • Thank you so much for your help - I hope you are keeping well. I will tell my sister. With kind regards Serve Chilled
