My Father is 84 and has dementia is deteriorating rapidly .
His myeloma is stage 4 . He had 13 cycles radiotherapy 3 years ago and has recently had five sessions of radiotherapy to his head .
My Sister and I must decide if he goes through chemotherapy again
Hi again Ally C I first talked with you in your first New to Community post. I don't have Myeloma but do have another type of rare blood cancer.
This is a very challenging time for you and the family...... I am making an assumption that the chemo being offered would be seen as palliative treatment?
I am not aware of anyone presently on this group who is in the exact same position either as a patient of family supporting someone, but let's see.
I see that you have actually joined our Supporting someone with incurable cancer group and you may want to look at our Carers only support group where you will connect with others navigating the same support challenges.
Hi, just came across your post. I was diagnosed with myeloma October 2022 so I’m just a beginner! I’m 62. My Mom died this February, she’d had dementia for at least 8 years, I feel like I lost her twice. My brother took such good care of her at home until she moved into a care home - her decline was so sad to watch. For what my opinion is worth, absolutely I would not even consider more chemo for your father, it’d be just too much & for what gain? Take care xx
