Hi Teresa123 and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and hear about your Stem Cell Transplant failing after 17 months.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups. I don’t have Myeloma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare (Incurable) but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Stage 4 in late 2013) so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is rather different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey well…… and more so as my first Allo (donor) SCT failed after 6 months.
My first Allo SCT was back in June 2014 and the graft failed in December 2014 - told on Christmas Eve…… so 10 months later I went back and had a second Allo SCT, that was Oct 2015 and I remain in remission to this day.
There are members both on here, our other blood cancer groups and in our dedicated Stem cell transplant support group have had both an Auto (own cells) SCT relapsed and went on to have an Allo SCT……. it unusual to have 2 Allo SCTs.
This us a confusing time but you need to trust your team to find a way friend in this.
Always around to chat ((hugs))
I sympathise greatly. Everybody’s myeloma is different. I was diagnosed July 2019 but due to Covid my SCT was postponed. The replacement treatment worked well enough at first but left me with some permanent lung damage. I eventually got my SCT in May 2021 but I relapsed after only 10 months. Even although there were mitigating circumstances I was declined a second transplant which I think I would have risked. I started DVd treatment in June 2022 and it’s worked well. By December my paraprotein had reduced to 2 and since January I’ve been on reduced treatment (Velcade dropped out) and the myeloma is stable - at least for now (pp=1). When the myeloma becomes active again I know that there are several new treatment regimes that can be administered. Keep believing!
