Hi Everyone,

I don't know where to start to be honest,

My dad had his SCT in 2018, 2 weeks ago he was told that he would now be put on Pomalidomide, and to get his affairs in order as he may possibly have a year left, since then he has deteriorated significantly and today i seem to fighting a losing battle with all medical services in trying to obtain some care for him, it is heartbreaking to watch such a strong independent man turn into this helpless figure in such a short space of time, he is a large man and i cannot physically help him, i could write an essay and have so many thoughts flying through my head, my main one is, does anyone know if i am looking at my dad still being here this Christmas? any positive outcomes from this cycle of treatment?

  • Hi  welcome to this corner of Online Community but so sorry to hear about your dad.

This is such a challenging and stressful time for you all but I do hope you will find the Community a safe place to get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.

At this point in time I am not aware of any group members dealing with this at the moment but could I suggest you join and post in the sites general Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer support groups where you will connect with others dealing with the same challenges while supporting family members.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Please do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Hello, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad and the anxiety you must be feeling,I don’t know the answer to your question as I have just finished my 4 cycles of treatment and awaiting my STC. I am presuming you have been in touch with Macmillan nurses and or Marie Curie? It is a very lonely place when no one seems to respond to your needs, I hope someone can help or tell you more about this treatment they have put your Dad on. I am so sorry please keep in touch and let me know how you get on xx
