  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have Myeloma but I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable type of NHL Stage 4a so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I do understand the challenges of the journey.

So sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis, some blood cancers can be so aggressive and life changing.

Lets look for some of the group members to pick up on your post. You can also look through the various posts (hit the main group name and scroll down) and as always you can hit reply and ask some questions and see if the member is looking in.

When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from joining our general Supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear and our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face when on a cancer journey (patient or family) can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area.

Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.

Always around to help more or just to chat

  • Oh I am sososo sorry to read abt your dad! I totally know what you mean, as My dad got diagnosed last summer. He had pain in his lower back and it shook the foundations of my world when he and my mum returned from a visit to the doctor with the terrible News. Totally feel you. My dad underwent 6 cycles of chemo and also had radiation done in the beginning to ease the lower back pain. Now, SCT is starting. Of course chemo comes with all kinds of side effects, but I really have to say, My dad felt so much better over the course of time! Good pain treatment and everything helps so much. I hope you will find all the support you and your family need. Never hesitate to very openly Talk to health professionals, psychologists etc. Wishing you and your beloved ones all the best!!!
