So where to start… my situation my mum was diagnosed with myeloma in July as well as kidney failure and she lost the ability to walk which I understand is all part of it she was doing so well so much so a month ago she went into remission she dealt with the situation amazingly but now the symptoms have returned but this time round she gone into shutdown they have done tests again to see if the myeloma has returned awaiting results at the moment but she won’t accept any help from the mental health team and she’s really struggling. She had her stem cell operation booked for this Monday coming (29th nov) but due to the symptoms returning and having to wait for the results they have cancelled the op. Myself my dad and sister are trying to support her best we can but we have now come to a point where we just don’t no what to do to help I know we cant make her better we just feel helpless she says she’s just wants to go to sleep as it’s the only way she can blot it out we try to take her out, visit to try take her mind off it but it doesn’t seem to help.
anyone that may have recovered or is currently going though this situation it would be greatly appreciated to get some advice or experiences that I can perhaps share with her to get her spirits up or any general advice anything at all for me, my mum or my family as we are at a loss how to help thank you
Hi welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our blood cancer groups.
I don’t have Myeloma but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I understand this journey rather well unfortunately.
Sorry to read about her not being well enough for her Stem Cell Harvest....... I have had two Donor Stem Cell Transplants so do understand how important this is.
Lets look for some of the group members who are caring for family to to pick up on your post.
When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from also joining our general Family and friends and Carers only groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
