Half way through 4th course of chemo and recommended for stem cell transplant after 6th. I have to make a decision to go for it or not. Can any one offer thoughts from their experience?
Hi. They ask you to sign a letter outlining all the risks involved, it makes for grim reading but luckily I got away lightly but still felt pretty sick and weak. I got out in three weeks and was in over Christmas, again I was fortunate in that the weather was awful and everyone was in lockdown. The biggest part for me was missing my wife, thank goodness for YouTube and WhatsApp! My room was modern and clean with most of the staff being great and the nurses were fantastic. In my opinion no worse overall than the treatment your going through at the moment, I'm still trying to get back to normal though. Good luck.
Thanks very much, I've got plenty of time yet to reach a decision but it's good to hear of your experience. Hope your normal returns soon!
I had a stem cell transplant last November, it was quite intense .I don’t think they would recommend it for you unless they thought it could give you a few more years, it is very expensive. After the transplant you have to have all your baby jabs again, you should let your loved ones be involved in your decision as they will be effected

Thanks. Your comments are valuable. How are you now?
I’m doing well now, the pain is under control and am about 90% back to my old self. I know that it may come back but I feel that I have been given a s,Escondido chance to put my house in good order

That's great to hear thanks. Hope your final 10% returns
Hi Vitara I am dropping in past from our dedicated Stem cell transplant group to see how things are going.
Do consider joining the SCT group if you find yourself on the Stem Cell path as there are people there to support you.
Hi Vitara. My husband had his SCT about 3 years ago and has been in remission ever since. He was in hospital for 3 weeks and it wasn't pleasant for about 2 weeks. He was weak when he came out but slowly gained strength. He's great now. They only managed to get stem cells for one transplant. Everyone will be different in how they approach this and outcomes will vary. Hope it all works out for you. Hang in there
