Happy to join the group. I am an African with Multiple myeloma diagnosed 2yrs ago. Had chemotherapy & stem cell treatment at Oxford as a private patient. I did tolerate all my medications without much problem. I am in remission.

Is there any support for foreigners in UK?

Financial, psychological and physical support as it’s very expensive to go through the unending treatment I am going through as MM is not curable but treatable as my consultant told me.

It is also very lonely being away from family and this disease makes me change my outlook to life.

What is next to do in life comes to my mind regularly!

I do not smoke or drink & did play golf 2ce a week before now, eat healthy foods, drink water, walking for 1hr daily etc, but where did I get MM from?
My treatment in UK gave me the golden opportunity to still be alive today but how long can I afford this, especially as a Private patient with no insurance,  medical expertise, tools & support isn’t available in my country!

2ndly is it still possible I get a private insurance done at my present condition and 66yrs old?
 Thanks

  • Hi Babasheks,

Welcome to the forum, it is great to have you here, although I do wish our paths had crossed under better circumstances. I’m really pleased you are in remission and long may that continue, although I’m sorry to read about the ongoing struggles you are facing.

I am not an expert in the areas you mention so I wonder if it might be worthwhile to give the Support Line a call? There is a team of experts who’re there for emotional, practical and financial support. There is a team of Welfare Rights Advisers who can talk to you about what benefits you might be able to claim as well as talking through any other financial support that might be available. The Support Line is available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00. I’d recommend giving them a call between Monday-Friday as that’s when the financial team is available.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg
