Hi, thanks for the welcome. No plan yet, that will be agreed with Doctor next week, two weeks after I was given the diagnosis.
I was given a full blood transfusion the day after the diagnosis meeting.
Been busy since, adjusting plans for the new near horizon, and started on acquiring information in prep for next Dr meeting, all with support of a good wife.
It is all so strange because I feel as strong as ever apart from breathlessness. Still can't take in this as reality.
Hi John,
A massive shock like a cancer diagnosis is going to take a while to sink in, definitely go easy on yourself over the next few weeks.
One tip from me about getting information is to stick to reputable sources, I scared myself half to death with some information that is out there on the internet, and in hindsight that didn’t do me very good. Let’s hope that your Doctor has a good plan for you and you can focus on getting yourself better once that all starts. If you’re feeling relatively good at the moment, definitely take that as a positive and hopefully it will mean you will cope with the treatment really well.
Here’s sending you loads of positive wishes at what I know will be an incredibly difficult time.
Greg
Current status is, I start chemo with Azacitidine on August 12 2021. The week prior I wil receive a blood transfusion to boost my imunoglobulin prior to the chemo.
Consultant says to do things I enjoy, including be outdoors with a mask amongst public.
I feel as healthy as ever, and mostly positive except for occasioanl sadness about leaving my wife alone, confused money woirries for what to arrange for my wife before I pass, frustration that I am fully healthy except for MDS, sad that I expected another 10 years of retirement yet before either of us had failing health.
I am grateful that I have a support network of othe rmilitary veterans which will be a great help for me and my wife as I go through this MDS process.
Hi Helen, thanks,
I had never previously heard of it either.Still realising how much of a shift in perspective it has caused through that one moment of diagnosis.
John
