I’ve joined this group as my dearest friend in the world was just diagnosed. Fish panel results are very hard to interpret and her oncologist just said it will take longer to achieve remission when we asked for an explanation of the results.
anybody on here have knowledge of understanding FISH Panel?
Nancy
Hi Team Lisa,
I am really sorry to read about your friend’s diagnosis, it can all be a very overwhelming shock so my heart goes out to you at this very difficult time.
I am afraid that I don’t know much about the FISH results but wanted to reply so that your post goes back to the top to see if anyone else has any insight. My consultant didn’t tell me my FISH results and I still don’t know to this day. I understand that it can tell you if your genetic make-up means you have a higher risk type of myeloma. I have come across a few people who have been told this over the past few years - I think like you say it can mean that it can take longer to find the exact treatment that will work best. However, I would not be too scared about this - all the people I have come across who have mentioned this all went on to find the treatment that worked for them - the good thing about myeloma now is that the medical professionals have a number of very good options to treat the disease and there is still every chance that the first line treatment will work very well and I am very much hoping that this will be the case for your friend.
Hope this helps in a small way,
Greg
Hi Greg
thanks so much for your reply. The only thing we do know is that she does not have any of the high risk chromosome abnormalities but that she has trisomies for 5 9 11 and 15. The rest is all Greek to us still.
the good news is that she just completed round one of treatment with no side effects except tiredness and her blood is holding up. In fact platelets rise slightly!!
once again, thanks so much for reaching out!!
Nancy
