Recently on a routine blood test it was revealed that I have “mildly raised” Kappa light chains and a Kappa/Lampda ratio of 2.1.
I am a 70 yr old male and tests were done as my kidney function had dropped but that seems to have improved.
I have been told to wait two months for a further blood test at which point I may be referred and something call a Bence Jones urine test.
I am just concerned about the wait as I am aware that early detection and treatment is vital.
As I understand it, my results could point to Myeloma and I was wondering if anybody had been in a similar situation?
Hi Gold Hill Dave and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups. I don’t have Myeloma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a very rare (also incurable) but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Stage 4 in late 2013) so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is rather different I do appreciate some of the challenges of this journey well.
Let’s look for the group members to pick up on your post.
Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
For good information do check out Myeloma UK who produce very good information and they also have a Support Line on 0800 980 3332
Always around to help more or just to chat.
Hiya. I was diagnosed over 2 years ago in March but didn't start chemo till May. Nothing had changed. Its OK, they know what they are doing. You will be fine. They may be checking for protein in your urine as this is also an indication of myeloma. But don't worry, I ve had lots of chemo, been in remission for over a year and feel fine. You ve got this x
