Hi All
i joined this group a few weeks ago and I have responded to a couple of people but I am so disappointed that nobody has responded to me, I am awaiting my st harvest on or about January 9th I was with the consultant yesterday, I live alone my family and friends rally round but it is a very lonely place sat by yourself thinking and being overwhelmed with treatment and diagnosis facts thrown at you. If someone responds to me today please that would be fab if not I will sign out but I do wish everyone well. X

Hi again Notgivingup, I see you are going down the Stem Cell Transplant (SCT) route….. I had 2 Allo (donor) SCT with the first back in June 2014 then my second in Oct 2015 and I am living a great life.
We do have a dedicated Stem cell transplant support group where you will be able to talk with others from many blood cancer and go have navigated the SCT Rollercoaster.
Why not join the group and introduce yourself.
Hi John
many thanks for responding!! I am so grateful to you. I must admit I am scared about the sct they certainly tell it how it is no grey areas at all just a load of side effects and debilitating treatment. How long were you in hospital for? Did you get all the side effects or just some, I must say my heart sank with the sepsis card but the indigestion I hate and I hope I escape that I have no gall bladder so I have trouble with that sometimes as it is!!! You will get sick of my questions I hope you continue to feel better, chat soon x
Hi,I was in hospital for 18 days. I went in expecting the very worse and tbh it wasn't...Don't get me wrong it wasn't easy,I lost a stone In weight, didn't eat for 3 days because of the ulcers in my throat and loss of taste which took 3 weeks to come back. One of the nurses said to me just remember how ever bad it gets it won't last which definitely helped.I thought my beard and hair was safe until day 9 it started to fall out so out came my clippers. It was good to take control tbh. A year ago I couldn't have imagined me saying or doing any of this and actually laughing about some of it..You take care and ask away.
Hi again!! Do you think anything could have helped you avoid the ulcers? I hate them, How do you feel now? I was diagnosed with myeloma in August after excruciating back pains which started in April turned out to be a fractured spine how did they diagnose yours? I have loads of questions for you!!!
Hi,apparently sucking ice cubes or lollies can help but I'd gone past that tbh.you get them in your osouphagouse too so swallowing anything was a no go.Sounds bad but you can do it.
I've just started my 6th and last chemo cycle so wide awake at 1am some mornings but the fatigue is improving with January the back to work date.
I was diagnosed with MGUSS 4 years ago and had 3 monthly bloods.Last October I started to get rib pain which was the myeloma. My treatment started in Feb.
Is your back ok now?
Hiya, my back still hurts I had radiotherapy at the end of August and they said it could take a while to improve however before I had to crawl out of bed!! Did you get sepsis with the sct? I am dreading going in I am so glad you responded to me x
Hi,I developed a temperature for a couple of days which required iv antibiotics but along with the ulcers that was it.
I think if your in a reasonable good health to start with you'll be fine.
Boredom to start with is the problem, take a tablet, books, crosswords etc with you.
Have you had your harvest yet?
Hi, harvest booked in for January 9th how did you find that? X
Hi,I had a tough time with the harvest on day 2 which meant we couldn't carry on for days 3 and 4. Luckily we had enough cells for one transplant. I must stress it was a one of and most people sail through it.
I hope I'm not giving you too much information just being honest .The team said it had never happened before so please dont worry.
