Well tomorrow Monday will be my 4th week of chemotherapy, I'm starting to see a pattern of Monday to Thursday feeling rough, hiccups, 3 hours sleep per night, hyper and then by sat and Sunday feeling OK but knowing its about to start again. Does it get any easier as the cycle moves on.16 weeks of this?
Hi J19, You don’t say what drugs you are on but I assume from your symptoms that, amongst others, you are on a steroid such as Dexamethasone.
If this is the case, I find that I can improve the stomach problems and reduce or eliminate the hiccups by rather than taking all the Dex in one go, spreading it out over an hour or so and making sure I take it with some stodgy food. Ask your consultant and see what they say.
If the lack of sleep and feeling hyper becomes a problem then it is well worth discussing with your consultant, they are often more than willing to reduce the dose of Dex which doesn’t seem to affect the results of the treatment.
Don’t suffer in silence and make sure you inform your consultant of any issues like this, they can usually find a way to improve things for you.
Hope that helps and good luck for tomorrow.
Thanks and yes I'm on DeX on a Monday and Tuesday. I've already had it reduced from 40ml to 20ml due to a racing heart on 2nd week.Theyve given me some anti sickness tabs but dont do much for the hiccups which in turn make the ribb pain worse.i will try spreading them out in the morning. Thanks again..
Hello again, I don't recall my other half getting hiccups. Bless you, I can imagine how that would affect pain in your ribs (I once broke a rib & got hiccups - ouch!) I wonder what is causing that ... mind you, he did suffer quite badly with what felt like indigestion ....
What I do know is that the medications and size of dose changed quite a few times ... especially when he got really low blood pressure. I wish he could come on here and share his worries and/or experience but he doesn't feel able to at the moment.
Take care x
