Hi all,

Some advice please....

My partner is in the middle of  a 2nd cycle of chemotherapy for myeloma. I'm having difficulty getting him to drink enough liquid. I keep giving him small amounts of different drinks, hot and cold but to no avail. What worries me is if I can't get him to drink when I'm at home I now have no idea if he drinks enough while I'm out weekdays.

All help and ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Thanking you all

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups.

I don’t have Myeloma but was diagnosed in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of NHL Stage 4a so although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I know this journey well.

Drinking water is so important as this is the main tool your partner has available to protect his Kidney function and to flush out the chemo toxins. Have you tried him with some Ice Lollies or Ice Cream..... these are round about way of keeping his hydration up.

Lets look for some of the group members to pick up on your post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Nurse Team on the Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Always around to help more or just to chat
