Hi

It is a while since I posted in here but I feel like we're back to square one. My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 3 years ago. He had a stem cell transplant in December 2018 but his cancer became active again in summer 2020. He has been part of a clinical trial and was due to have his second stem cell transplant next week - however, the chemo for the trial worked initially but within 3 weeks of finishing it, his levels have gone straight back up. He has now been put on the maintenance drug lsatuximab as the stem cell transplant wouldn't have worked,

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar - just feel like we are going round in circles - consultants have been brilliant and certainly know they are doing everything they can.

Thanks people - hope you're all doing well.

  • Hi Clara,

I am so sorry to read about how your husband is doing at the moment. I don’t have any experience of isatuximab but just wanted to reach out to say I’m thinking about you at what must be a very scary time. I don’t know if there will be anyone on this site who has experience of this specific drug. You could always try the Myeloma UK website forum, I know that there are people on their 6th or 7th lines of treatment, including long term maintenance many of which on clinical trials so someone might be able to give you some practical experience. I can imagine how you must be feeling like going round and round in circles. Early on I was told that dealing with myeloma is a marathon not a sprint, but it is an awful feeling when you seem to be go round and round and not getting anywhere. Here’s hoping that this new drug does the job and puts your husband back into a long period of remission.

Thanks for your reply Greg - I will try the forum on Myeloma UK; as you say, people might have experienced this and be able to advise.

    Thanks for getting in touch.
