Hi All

135 days post SCT and just finished cycle 1 of consolidation treatment. All numbers have been in normal ranges since discharged but after the end of cycle 1 of 15mg lenalidomide, bortezomib and dex my platelets have dropped to 69 and cycle two is delayed till repeat bloods

I am still on cotrimoxazole and amoxicillin care pack following SCT, is the drop in platelets a normal occurrence ?

love to hear from anyone who is experienced this :-)

  • Hi Carerbell,

Although I didn't have an SCT, I had and have low platelets. Some of that is a medical mystery (I may have had fairly low platelets all my life) but both bortezomib and lenalidomide reduce platelet levels in the short term.

    In short, yes, it's normal.

Perhaps you are asking "Are platelet levels of 68 something to worry about?" No. Mine went down to 23 during treatment! After a few years of remission, they are around 60. Still going strong!

  • Hi  although I did not have Myeloma…… following my second Allograft (donor) SCT my platelets were below the lower acceptable levels for a good year post SCT and often had Platelet infusions…… I am 10 years 9 month maths post SCT and my platelets are regularly just above the lower level - my new normal for my bone marrow.

  • Hi! That’s not my case. Grimacing  I Am 75 with free light chain myeloma not transplant eligible. And ending 5th cycle of DRD Daratumumab dexamethasone and lenalidomide  and am with plats recovering reaching 90 but I am struggling with neutrophiles, sometime down at 0.32 so (severely neutropenic) well below safety level of 1 had to take injections at home of Filgrastim. I thought the Lena affected Neu more than plat..
