Hi All,
I was sent to Aberdeen RI on the 13th for pre harvest checks and to introduce me to the equipment at the blood transfusion centre. I was getting my Cyclophosomide priming on the 20th and harvest was booked for Edinburgh RI on the 27th, my good lady had booked a hotel for us for 4 days as edinburgh has no accommodation for patients or there carers.
Anyhow I had an appointment to go to my haematology on the 14th to see my consultant, he told us that my harvest and transplant were cancelled as my cancer was progressing instead of reducing after 4 cycles of RADAR Trial, very dissappointed to have wasted 5 months.
However onwards and upwards on Wednesday I started my second line of treatment which is DVD, my consultant said there would normally have been a fourth drug in the regime but they did not have the money for it, that comment did nor bode well. So I had my first course of treatment on Wednesday which included a dex infusion which meant i was up at 3am and had to take another 20 of those horrid DEx again in the morning.
I am hearing reasonably good feed back about DVD and was wondering what others think of it and if it has worked for them.
Thanks
Not sure what I done wrong with my last post but going to give an update on my last post.
I have now completed 3 cycles of DVD in my fourth cycle week two this week, I received a call from a hematology nurse from Aberdeen RI I guessed it was to do with a stem cell transplant but had no word from my consultant that harvesting was going to happen soon,
The very nice specialist nurse actually gave me a date for priming on the 4th March and harvest on the 12th March, my support worker has booked accommodation at the Aberdeen Clan Center for my good lady as i have been told that my harvest shall be inpatient, I was not expecting anything to happen until June, July.
My problem is not the treatment but the thought of everything getting cancelled again, last time was at 5 days notice. I became pretty anxious after this disappointment and had to seek help. I have booked a slot for counseling before the dates come up. I know that if cancelled again that is two lines of treatment gone in 8 months and will not bode well for future treatments.
I know this has happened to others and would like to ask how others have dealt with this. I know i should be positive and am trying very hard but i cannot get away from thinking about cancellation again.
Thank You Stephen
Hi. Stephen. Kevin here. Just had my. SCT. IN Birmingham after 5 knock backs due to no bed space. It also made me anxious. But daily calls made me feel they were really trying to fit me in. Added complication. I wanted transfer back to Worcestershire. Closer to home. Which was done yesterday. I also completed 4 cycles of DVTB. And it got by bloods low. Now the recovery battle is on. You are in good hands. Stephen. Wish u the best. Kevin
Hi Alamo ….. oh the SCT rollercoaster is full of twists and turns but let’s look for this latest plan to follow through and get your SCT done.
CLAN is a great charity, I am originally from Fraserburgh so know some of the staff in their centres.
Thanks Mike, met a few at my previous appointments last year, they are very good.
Stephen
