Hi everyone

We saw the doctor today and my mums finished her 6 months of cyclophosphamide and Dexamethasone her protein came down to 22 last month but we do to know this months yet, but know she's on nothing, just waiting to see how she's doing in 6 weeks time. She tried lots of treatments and cyclophosphamide is her last, the doctor did say she may go back on cyclophosphamide if she has a high jump in protein or just steroids if a small jump I did ask if she can have a low dose of cyclophosphamide but he said no because then can't have the higher dose. What I'm trying to say is with a protein level of 22 how quick will that jump.up to the late 30s or 40s? Anyone had a high protein but not had treatment?

Thanks Laura

  • Hi Laura, I had cyclophosphamide but for 8 months. I had to stop it for a few months because I had a mild stroke. But my doctors allowed me to have the other two months. When I finished my protein was at 5 and I have had 12 months off from having any chemo or anything. Lots of people don’t know they have myeloma until the protein is at a high level and are not on any treatment. Your doctors should know what they are doing so just go with the flow. I am going on my fourth treatment this week (Daratumamab) hopefully this will work as well as the cyclophosphamide did. If you’re not feeling happy with your mum’s treatment perhaps you could talk to the cancer nurse specialist and tell her of your concerns. Don’t forget the medication stays in your body for a while so it will continue to go down for a while. Hope your mum gets on ok. I’m going on Daratumamab they say theyve had good results with it. Take care and love to your mum..Gwen xx
