Just finished 7 sessions of chemo treatment and have been offered stem cell treatment as the next step. Early stages of discussion at the moment but I am up for it.
My initial treatment has gone very well, para protein level down from around 32 to 5.5. I have some concerns about infection during the stem cell process, especially with Covid 19 so active at the moment but lack of immunity in general has got me worried however I am sure there will be strict procedures to follow that will protect.
I will update on progress.
Hi Ducas,
It’s great to read that the treatment has worked really well in driving down the paraprotein, that’s a really good sign heading into SCT. I hope all goes really well for you. It is almost 5 years to the day that I had mine so memory is getting fuzzy around the edges. It was a tough couple of weeks but definitely worth it in the long run, I’m really hoping all goes well for you. I know COVID-19 throws another dimension into it, but I’m sure the medical teams will have strong processes in place. They already had very tight infection control on the unit I was on, so I’m sure they will have tightened them even more now.
Wishing you all the best and please do keep us updated.
Greg
