Hi everyone, I havent posted in a while because honestly I am very confused with my fathers case. His last appointment was in April when I last posted regarding his protein levels he was due another appointment start if August but hasn't heard anything, doctors dont seem to know themselves what my fathers case is, 1 has told him multiple myeloma and the other mgus!! I just wanted to check does mgus have bone involvement as my father has around 8 lesions on his pelvis and spine. Hope everyone is well and staying safe x
Hi Teec,
It is good to hear from you again although I’m sorry to read about the uncertainty with your Dad at the moment. I remember your posts from a few months ago but apologies, given the new system change, I can’t easily see your posting history, so I’m sorry if I repeat myself from a few months ago. I’m not a medical expert but I think MGUS typically is asymptomatic, so it would be unusual for your Dad to have bone lesions at the MGUS stage. But it could be possible. How is he feeling within himself? That is probably a better barometer in terms of what action you should take. Is he getting bone pain? Is he feeling tired? What is his weight like (any unexpected weight loss should be followed up)? If he is struggling with any symptoms of myeloma, I would definitely push the medical teams to get his treatment plan sorted out. I think it’s important for any blood abnormalities to be regularly followed up, so if he hasn’t been seen since April, then maybe it is a good idea to push for a follow-on appointment to see how things are now?
Greg
Thanks for your reply, Dad has a lot of pain in his hip especially at night it keeps him awake he did speak to gp about this and they gave him painkillers and referred him to physiotherapy but we are almost 5 months on from his last appointment with no follow up and no definitive answers unfortunately, I will speak to him and ask him to contact his haematologist.
Hi Teec,
Yes, I would definitely push for a follow-up. Any sort of bone pain when myeloma is suspected should definitely get followed up.
Wishing you and your Dad all the best
Greg
